Some tips for drivers  as for vehicle registration plate format in Ireland

Vehicle registration plates format in Ireland issued since 1987 have the format YY-CC-SSSSSS where the components are:

-  YY — a 2-digit year (e.g. 87 for 1987; 05 for 2005)
-  CC — a 1- or 2-character county identifier (e.g. D for Dublin; SO for Sligo).
-  SSSSSS — a 1- to 6-digit sequence number, starting with the first vehicle registered in the county that year.

Since 1991, standard Irish number plate has been designed on the base of European standard guidelines, with a blue band to the left of the plate containing the 12 stars of the European flag and the country identifier IRL.

The rest of the plate has a white background with black characters. Unlike legal requirements in most other European countries, a standard uniform character font is not required. It was only required legible black characters, no more than 70 mm high and 36 mm wide, on a white reflective background. The result is that a large variety of perfectly legal font styles may be seen, on either pressed aluminium or acrylic plates, both of which are allowed. Despite the rather relaxed lack of a specified font, the hyphen between the lettering must lie between the minimum dimensions of 13mm x 10mm or the maximum dimension of 22mm x 10mm. Also the full Irish language name of the county is required, it must be positioned above the identifier. Vehicle owners may be fined if the plate's format does not meet the requirements and will most certainly automatically fail government vehicle testing NCT which the vehicle is required to undergo on a two-yearly basis.

A vehicle's number plate is determined when it is first registered, the county code being taken from the first owner's postal address. Registration remains fixed on the one vehicle until it is de-registered (exported, destroyed, etc), and cannot be transferred to other vehicles.

Ireland: Planning to relocate for permanent?

Here are some tips for you:

Immigration to Ireland has prospered since the 1990's, fuelled by strong economic conditions and immigration services which are somewhat less complicated to navigate than many other popular migration destinations.

Ireland can offer excellent working conditions, low unemployment and low crime rate, as in addition to excellent healthcare and education as well as a rich cultural history and sense of national identity.

Long term visas for Ireland:

In Ireland, work visa applications fall into one of three categories, the Irish work permit, The Irish Green Card and the Intra Company Transfer or ICT.

Irish work permit functions as a long-term immigration route designed to allow Irish companies to employ foreign nationals to be employed for a specific job. Like UK work permits, the Irish model is also based upon the need for a guaranteed job offer to be in place.

In the same way, Irish Intra Company Transfers follow the same principle as UK ICT's, designed specifically to allow a company to transfer the skills and experience of staff from a foreign branch or subsidiary for an agreed period in order to undertake a specific position or project.

In Ireland, visas of this kind are intended as a temporary measure and applicants must return to their country of residence when the grant expires.

For positions which offer sufficient remuneration, applicants  may obtain an Irish Green Card, which offers the possibility of applying for permanent residence in Ireland after only two years, rather than the usual 5 year minimum residency period.

However, unlike the USA Green Card, the Irish version is not in itself a grant of permanent residence. The popularisation of the term Green Card when referring to the US immigration route can make the term Irish Green Card seem misleading; although Irish Green Cards may ultimately lead to the opportunity to apply for permanent residence and in time a grant of Irish citizenship, they in fact function much like working permits.
